"Jim McCann spent 6,424 days in total in the H-blocks of Long Kesh Prison Camp. Sentenced to twenty-five years after capture on an IRA operation he spent five years 'on the blanket' protesting for political status, a protest which culminated in the 1981 hunger strike and the deaths of ten prisoners. He took part in the 1983 IRA mass escape from the prison but was recaptured at gunpoint. After his release he attended Galway University, qualifed as a teacher and has a Master's degree in education. He is a school vice-principal in West Belfast and remains a committed Irish republican."--Back cover.
