He is best known for his epic poem 'Paradise Lost'. 'Paradise Lost' is widely considered as one of the greatest works of literature. He is known for 'Aeropagitica' which is written in condemnation of pre-publication censorship and is among history's most influential and impassioned defence of freedom of speech and freedom of the press. He is highly appreciated by William Hayley. He had considered Milton the 'greatest English author'. Other renowned poets such as William Blake, William Wordsworth, and Thomas Hardy revered John Milton. 'Paradise Lost' has been considered as Milton's masterpiece, with that his reputation was considered as one of the greatest English poets of his time.
