Paula Hawkins (born August 26, 1972) is a British author best known for her bestselling psychological thriller The Girl on the Train. Born and raised in Salisbury, Rhodesia (now Harare, Zimbabwe), Hawkins moved to London in 1989 to study at the University of Oxford, where she earned a degree in philosophy, politics, and economics. Before becoming a novelist, she worked as a journalist and financial writer. Hawkins achieved global fame with The Girl on the Train (2015), a gripping tale of obsession and deceit, which was later adapted into a major film. Her subsequent novels, including Into the Water (2017) and A Slow Fire Burning (2021), cemented her reputation as a master of suspense.
